George Ronald Lidwill was the son of Colonel R. A. Lidwill (3rd Royal Irish Fusiliers), of Dromard, Co. Tipperary. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Green Howards on 28 January 1932, becoming Lieutenant on 28 January 1935, and Temporary Captain in 1940. He was killed in action during the battle of Otta, Norway, on 29 April 1940, during the Allied withdrawal through the Gudbrandsdal. He is buried with more than 20 others of his regiment in the Nord-Sel Churchyard in Norway, there being no Commonwealth war cemeteries in that country.
