Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (2) (Michael McCabe; Charles Haddon), second with screw and bolt fitting at 12 o’clock, very fine (2) £60-80

First attributed to Michael McCabe who was born in West Hartlepool and enlisted at Richmond, Yorkshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry he was killed in action, France / Flanders, 26 August 1916. He was buried in Aveluy Wood Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart, Somme, France. Note: other killed servicemen known with these names.

Charles Haddon was born in and enlisted at Newcastle-upon Tyne. He served initially with the Northumberland Fusiliers, then the 2nd Infantry Labour Company Durham Light Infantry and finally with the 33rd Company Labour Corps. He died of wounds, France / Flanders, 2 September 1917, aged 24 years. He was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Sold with embroidered card, ‘God be with you until I return’, dated 25/3/17, signed ‘Charlie’.
