East and Central Africa 1897-99, 1 clasp, Uganda 1897-98 (Qr. Mr. S. D. Shaw, A.V.C.) good very fine £400-450

The Army Veterinary Corps, composed of N.C.O’s. and other ranks, was formed in 1903 to aid and support the officers of the Army Veterinary Department. In 1906 the two separate arms were amalgamated into one unit - the Army Veterinary Corps. It may well be that Shaw was a Quartermaster with the A.V.D. at the time of the Uganda campaign and that he may not have claimed or been issued his medal until later, hence the initials A.V.C. after his name. A ‘Mr S. D. Shaw’ is listed for the ‘Uganda 1897-98’ clasp in British Battles & Medals. Sold with copied research.
