India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Chin-Lushai 1889-90 (Capt. C. M. Stephenson, 2d Bn. K.O. Sco. Bord.) good very fine £240-280

Lieutenant-Colonel Cecil MacDonald Stephenson joined the K.O.S.B. from the Militia on 25th November 1885 and served with the 1st Battalion in the Chin-Lushai Expedition 1889-90 for which he was awarded the I.G.S. Medal with clasp. He returned from India with the Battalion in 1890 and in 1893 was promoted Captain. During the years 1895-1900 he served with the 4th Volunteer Battalion The Black Watch. On 14th November 1900 he was posted back to the 1st Battalion K.O.S.B. and served in the Boer War during the years 1901-02, taking part in operations in the Transvaal between March 1901 and 31st May 1902, performing the duties of Station Staff Officer from April 1901, firstly as Commandant of Breedt’s Nek and then of Naauwport, Transvaal. For his services he was awarded the Q.S.A. with three clasps. Promoted Major in 1902, he was posted with the 1st Battalion to Belfast 1903-05, Colchester 1905-06 and Cairo 1906-09. Posted to the 2nd Battalion in Belfast on 10th November 1910, he was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel and took over command on 3rd December 1910. With his new command he served in Dublin during 1912-14. With the outbreak of the Great War, he took the 2nd Battalion K.O.S.B. from Dublin to France. He was wounded and captured at Le Cateau, 26th August 1914. He is listed as being interned in Switzerland on 28th December 1916 and repatriated on 24th March 1918. For his services he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 19.10.1914), most probably for his action at Le Cateau, on the 26th August, when he and an orderly, in full view of the enemy, brought in a wounded artillery officer. He retired from the Army on 17th August 1919 and died on 17th February 1927 aged 63 years. Sold with riband bar.
