Waterloo 1815 (Alexander Mulligan, 1st Batt. 79th Reg. Foot) fitted with original steel clip and replacement bar suspension, light edge bruising and the obverse polished, otherwise about very fine £1200-1500

Alexander Mulligan enlisted into the 2nd Battalion, 79th Foot, as a Boy on 1 November 1811, for a Bounty of £3-12-6. He served in France with the 2nd Battalion from October 1813 until June 1814, when he returned to Cork and was transferred to the 1st Battalion. He fought with this battalion at the battle of Waterloo where the regiment suffered heavy casualties. In the muster for July to September 1815, Mulligan is noted as being absent ‘sick at Brussels’, possibly indicating that he was wounded at Waterloo. He remained with the Army of Occupation in France until October 1818, and served subsequently in Jersey and in Ireland until 15 December 1822, when he was discharged. Sold with muster details.
