O.B.E. London Gazette 1 June 1954 (Reverend, R.N.Z.A.F.).

M.C. London Gazette 26 November 1917 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He captured an enemy strong point with his platoon and held it in spite of continual artillery and machine gun fire. He displayed coolness and self-posession throughout, which had the greatest influence on his men.’

A. R. Allerton was educated at Keble College, Oxford and Ely Theological College. He was Curate of St Andrews, Romford 1926-29, and Vicar of St Thomas, City and Dioceses of Auckland, New Zealand 1929-42. During the Second World War he served as a Chaplain in the R.N.Z.A.F. 1940-45, before taking the post of Dean of Hamilton 1945-46. Sold with copy of m.i.c. and fourteen pages from his correspondence file, these mostly dealing with his claim for a wound gratuity, as a result of a gun shot wound to the neck, received at Givenchy on 14 March 1918.
