Claud Reginald Davies was appointed 2nd Lieutenant with the 10th Battalion Manchester Regiment on 15 March 1915, Temporary Lieutenant on 7 October 1915 and Lieutenant on 1 June 1916. He was slightly wounded at Passchendale, 9 October 1917. He was promoted Acting-Captain in the 2nd Battalion East Lancashire Regiment in June 1918 but in August he was subject to a Court of Inquiry when he and five other ranks went missing for several days in ‘no-mans’ land’. Amongst other deficiencies, the Court found that Davies had got lost. Suffering from the subsequent effects of exposure and starvation, Davies was invalided to England in September 1918. Sold with 29 sheets of copied service papers.
