John Wilberforce Boardman was born in Woodford on 28 February 1896 and educated at Mill hill School. In the Great War he served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 3/9th (Cyclist) Bn. Hampshire Regiment and North Somerset Yeomanry and was a Lieutenant in the 10th Hussars. He was invalided to England in January 1918 having been wounded. During the Second World War he was Lieutenant-Colonel in the Home Guard, being C.O. of the 9th Bn. Essex Home Guard, 1943-44 and Garrison Commander at Harwich, 1943-44. Sold with copied service papers and other research details.
