Sold with four letters written by the recipient from the Middle East to friends in England - dated 31 June 1941, 9 July 1941, 11 August 1941 and 22 August 1941. Also with original addressed card forwarding box (damaged) to Mrs Saltmarsh, Chelmsford, Essex (his mother who had remarried), with accompanying Army Council condolence slip.

Bombardier Thomas Richard Gilbert, 339th Battery, 104th (Essex Yeomanry) R.H.A., died of wounds received at Tobruk, 25 October 1941, aged 25 years. He was buried at Alexandria War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
