Jamaica, New Broughton, Broughton Place Church, communion token, 1835-45, J[ames] P[atterson] and A[ndrew] G. Hogg (Lyall 167; Burzinski 1036 and p.464, this piece; C 899; cf. Noble III, 400). Very fine and very rare (£100-150)

James Paterson, from Auchtergavan, Scotland, preached his first sermon in Jamaica in December 1835. The Broughton Place church he founded opened in 1842 but Paterson was fatally injured in a fall from his horse that year and the ministry passed in 1844 to Andrew G. Hogg, the encumbent until 1882 (Lyall, pp.67-8)
