Provenance: Bt August 2004.

Clarkson Frederick Stanfield, RA (1793-1867), painter, was engaged as a decorator and scene-painter at the Royalty Theatre in Wellclose square in August 1816. He later moved to the Coburg Theatre in Lambeth and then from 1823 to 1834 he was a resident scene-painter at the Theatre Royal, Drury lane. Stanfield was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1820 until his death, was a founder-member of the Society of British Artists in 1824 and its president in 1829
