John Patrick Johnson, who was from Dundee, was serving in the escort carrier H.M.S.
Pursuer at the time of receiving his decoration. A ship of the tracker-class which had been fitted out as a ‘fighter carrier’, the Pursuer was the holder of battle honours for ‘Norway 1944’, ‘Normandy 1944’, ‘South of France 1944’, ‘Aegean 1944’ and ‘Atlantic 1943-45’, during which period she hosted elements of No. 881 and No. 896 Squadrons, F.A.A., which units went into action in Wildcats.
