A Heavy Brigade Pair to Farrier Sergeant J. Yorke, 5th Dragoon Guards

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (... J. Yorke, 5th Dra ....), engraved naming, part of naming illegible ; Turkish Crimea 1855, British issue (No.995 Far. Jas. York (sic), 5th Dragoon Dgs.), privately impressed naming, pierced with ring and straight bar suspension, severe edge bruising, possibly sometime brooch mounted, contact marks, good fine (2) £300-400

James Yorke, a Shoeing Smith by trade, enlisted into the Army at Malton, York on 5th December 1847, aged 30 years. As a Private in the 5th Dragoon Guards he served in the Crimea and gained the medal with clasps for Balaklava, Inkermann and Sebastopol. In 1859 he re-enlisted and in the following year was promoted Farrier Sergeant, a rank he held until his discharge in 1871. Sold with copied service papers.
