India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (Corpl. Peter Ashton, 2nd Beng. Eur. Fusrs.) later impressed issue, good very fine £60-80

Peter Ashton, a native of Warrington, Lancashire, enlisted in the East India Company’s Infantry at Brompton Barracks, Chatham in June 1839, aged 18 years. Allocated to the Bengal Army, he sailed for India in August of the same year and was posted to the 2nd Bengal European Fusiliers on arrival at Calcutta. Ashton subsequently witnessed active service in the Punjab operations of 1848-49, when he was present at Chilianwala and Goojerat, and in the Pegu operations of 1853. He was invalided back to the U.K. in January 1854.
