John Fenwick attested for the Durham Light Infantry prior to the Second World War and was first discharged on 25 April 1939. He re-enlisted in the 8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry on 22 May 1939 and was posted to 11th Battalion in Iceland. He transferred to the Green Howards on 29 August 1944.
