Four: Captain (Quartermaster) J. Watkins, Royal Army Medical Corps, who served with the 25th Field Hospital during the Boer War and was Mentioned in Despatches during the Great War

R.A.M.C.); 1914 Star, naming erased; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Q.M. & Capt. J. Watkins) edge bruises to QSA, very fine (4) £140-£180

James Watkins served as a Lieutenant and Quartermaster with the 25th Field Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps in South Africa during the Boer War. Following the outbreak of the Great War he served on the Western Front from 15 August 1914 and was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 17 February 1915) for ‘gallant and distinguished service in the field’. His Great War medal index card states that he was later advanced to the rank of Quartermaster and Honorary Major.
