Albert Poole attested for the South Staffordshire Regiment and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 August 1914. He was discharged from the army due to wounds on 16 May 1915.

James Henson was born in Winchester, Hampshire. He attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment and served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 31 May 1915. He was killed in action on 20 November 1917, during the battalion’s attack on the first day of the Battle of Cambrai. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, France.

Ewen Muir Macaulay was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. He attested for the Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment and served with the 2/4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 1 August 1915. He later served with the battalion in Egypt and Palestine and was killed in action on 19 April 1917, the closing day of the Second Battle of Gaza. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial.

Matthew Thomas Dalton was born in Coventry, Warwickshire. He attested for the 14th (Severn Valley Pioneers) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from June 1916, as part of the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division. He was killed in action on 4 February 1917 during an attack on Ancre Trench. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Robert Charles Long was born in Fulham, Middlesex. He attested for the Durham Light Infantry and served with the 1/8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front after the 1 January 1916. He was killed in action on 5 November 1916, during the closing stages of the Battle of the Somme, when his battalion attacked the Butte de Warlencourt, suffering over 150 killed and wounded. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Herbert Shute served with the 1/4th Battalion Devonshire Regiment (Territorial Army) during the Great War in the Mesopotamian theatre of War. He died of wounds on 3 February 1917, and is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
