‘In recognition of their services in the Destroyer Patrol Flotillas, Armed Boarding Steamers, &c., during the period which ended on 30 September, 1916.’

Albert Davey was born in Dartmouth, Devon on 25 August 1889. He joined the Royal Navy on 3 October 1907 as a Stoker II Class, initially at H.M.S. Vivid II before joining H.M.S. Sentinel on 28 January 1908. Serving on a number of ships, he joined H.M.S. Alarm as an Acting Leading Stoker on 1 July 1913, and served in this ship until 17 December 1915, having been confirmed to that rating and been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. After over a year at Vivid II, and having been promoted Stoker Petty Officer, he spent a month with H.M.S. Dido, before being posted to H.M.S. Attentive II on 1 March 1917. He later served at H.M.S. Attentive II, which was the shore base for the Dover Patrol, until 8 March 1919. He was discharged from the Royal Navy in June 1922.
