M.I.D. London Gazette 15 May 1916:
‘For good service in action between the time of the landings in the Gallipoli Peninsula in April 1915 and the evacuation in December 1915 to January 1916.’

Edward Francis Massey was born in St. Nicholas, co. Cork, on 6 June 1879, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 23 April 1896. He served in H.M.S. Undaunted from 23 March 1897, and was advanced Able Seaman on 1 October 1898. Advanced Leading Seaman on 21 October 1909, he transferred to H.M.S. Colossus on 8 October 1911, and was promoted Petty Officer on 23 February 1913. He served during the Great War in H.M.S. Albion from the outbreak of War to 18 May 1916, being Mentioned in Despatches for his services in Gallipoli, and then spent the remainder of the War in various shore establishments. He was advanced Chief Petty Officer on 1 September 1920, and was shore pensioned on 8 January 1921.
