D.S.M. London Gazette 14 June 1945.

Charles Rupert Francis Hesse served during the Second World War as a temporary Stoker Petty Officer, was awarded the D.S.M for service aboard the O-Class destroyer and Flotilla leader H.M.S. Onslow.

The original recommendation for Hesse’s D.S.M. has not survived; however, the surviving recommendations for other members of H.M.S.
Onslow awarded a Decoration for late 1944 to early 1945 were all for actions against a German convoy on the night of the 11-12 January 1945. Hesse’s D.S.M., which was a Birthday Honours award, would have been for general good service during the period.
