For his services in the Crimea he was awarded the Fifth Class of the Turkish Order of the Medjidieh (London Gazette 2 March 1858).

Promoted Captain on 29 May 1857, Stockwell served in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny, and was present at the siege and capture of Awah and Kotah, the battle of Kora Ka Seria, the general actions at the capture of Gwalior, and the capture of Pourie (Medal with clasp for Central India).
