The original Recommendations states: ‘This rating joined the staff Principal Sea Transport Officer in the planning stage of operation
Neptune and has served continuously in France, Belgium, and Germany from D+2 onwards. During this time his superior knowledge of his Naval duties and his wide service experience have been invaluable in all matters affecting the clerical aspect of Sea Transport in their function and liaison with other branches of the Services and Civil Departments. His has been a responsible and difficult job frequently accomplished in extremely trying circumstances. Due to the inexperience of his staff, the bulk of the routine office work of a large and scattered command devolved on him, necessitating his working very long hours without respite, often over long periods. Nevertheless, at all times, his zeal determination, and wholehearted devotion to duty have never flagged. He has been a fine example to his subordinates.’
