Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful) (Francis David Rae, 28th August, 1888.) lacking integral top riband buckle, minor edge nicks, good very fine £80-£120

R.H.S. Case no. 24,119:
‘Frank Searer, Barnabas Moses, David Rae, and Algernon Graves. Between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. on 28 August 1888, at Ventnor, Isle of Wight, Mr. John Ryall was bathing when the backwash carried him off his feet out of his depth 25 to 30 yards out, in a rough sea. Messrs Searer and Rae were bathing nearby and swam to Ryall and held him up, until Moses came when they returned to shore. Ryall then clutched with Moses and both were in great danger when Graves swam out from the shore and succeeded in rescuing Ryall. Ryall was much exhausted by the ordeal.’
