Alfred Knott was born at 11 Rock Terrace, Kidderminster in March 1870. He served with the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, from 24 February 1890 - 31 March 1908. During this time he served with Battalion HQ at Kidderminster and advanced to Sergeant, before transferring to the newly formed 7th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment in April 1908 (awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal in January 1909).

Knott was promoted Colour Sergeant in October 1914, and Warrant Officer Class II in January 1915. He subsequently transferred to the Labour Corps, after the Great War he returned to service with the 7th Battalion (awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in November 1920). The above medals being his full entitlement.

Knott died at 150 Park Street, Kidderminster in June 1926.
