A scarce ‘Waziristan 1921’ operations M.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant L. W. B. Jennings, 64th Pioneers, who was attached to the 48th Pioneers and severely wounded in the face whilst fighting a successful rear-guard action

29 M.Cs were gazetted in 1921 for the Waziristan operations.

London Gazette 21 April 1921:

‘For conspicuous gallantry on 4 January 1921, near Jandola, when he held on to an advanced sangar which had been vacated by the covering troops, thus enabling the wounded to get away, and though heavily fired upon from three directions he continued to hold his position until severely wounded in the face. He then brought in the remainder of his party.’

Lewis Wensley Bond Jennings was commissioned on the Unattached List in August 1918 and was appointed to the 64th Pioneers in the following month. He was, however attached to the 48th Pioneers at the time of winning the M.C. in January 1921. He retired in the rank of Captain on 18 December 1928.
