M.B.E. London Gazette 1 January 1965: ‘3122386 Warrant Officer Class I Thomas Michael Patrick Moore, Royal Army Ordnance Corps; on loan to the Government of Sierra Leone.’

Thomas Michael Patrick Moore was born in Wokingham, Berkshire, on 6 February 1895, and joined the Royal Artillery as a Boy Soldier at Reading on 5 April 1910. He was discharged four days later, ‘having been irregularly enlisted’, but subsequently re-enlisted in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 October 1914. Advanced Warrant Officer Class II, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in October 1928. Subsequently transferring to the Indian Army Ordnance Corps, he served with them as a Conductor during the Second World War, and was Mentioned in Despatches ‘in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Malaya in 1942 (London Gazette 19 December 1946). At the time of Indian Independence, Moore was serving with the Pakistan Army Ordnance Corps, with the rank of Lieutenant (temporary Lieutenant-Colonel), and was awarded a second Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 16 February 1951, by which time he had reverted to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Supplementary List of ex-Indian Army personnel. His final posting was on loan to the Government of Sierra Leone, in which capacity he was created a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 1965 New Year’s Honours’ List, whilst in his 70th year. He retired shortly afterwards, and died in Peterborough in 1974.
