India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Bhootan (813. Sergt. G. Coaten H.M’s. 80th. Regt.) contact marks, with number almost obscured, nearly very fine £180-£220
George Coaten was born in Barnwell, Northamptonshire, and attested underaged into the 73rd Foot on 16 July 1853. Advanced Sergeant, he served with them in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny (entitled to a no clasp Indian Mutiny Medal), before transferring to the 80th Foot on 8 April 1861. He was discharged on 18 August 1874, after 21 years’ service.
