General Service 1918-62, 2 clasps, Iraq, N.W. Persia (114535 Trmptr. E. A. Sandy. R.A.) worn, therefore fair £60-£80

Ernest Albert Sandy was born in Rame, Cornwall, on 13 July 1902. He joined the Royal Artillery on 16 August 1916, and later served as a Trumpeter with the Royal Garrison Artillery, seeing operations in Iraq during the Mesopotamian Rebellion from 10 December 1919 to 17 November 1920, and also on operations in North West Persia from 10 August to 31 December 1920, serving with the 13 Park Battery Royal Garrison Artillery His Medal Index card confirms that his General Service medal was his sole medal entitlement for the Great War period. He was discharged on 27 September 1926, but re-enlisted on 13 October 1927 in order to complete his 21 year term of service. Discharged in 1937, he was recalled for service during the Second Wolrd War, and served as a Sergeant with the 9th Coastal Regiment, Royal Artillery in Singapore, part of the Singapore Fixed Defences. He was taken prisoner of War at the Fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942, and was held in at Changi camp in Singapore until being liberated on 2 September 1945. He was finally discharged on 27 September 1946, and is believed to have emigrated to South Africa after the War.
