John James Frederick Mills was born at 74 Hassett Road, Homerton, Hackney in June 1912. He attested as a Bandsman in the Worcestershire Regiment at London in May 1928. Mills served with the 1st Battalion in Palestine in 1938, before transferring to the Army Reserve in June the following year.

Mills re-engaged for service during the Second War, and served with the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment in North Africa. Having advanced to Lance-Corporal, he was taken prisoner of war at Tobruk, 21 June 1942, and transported to Camp 59, Servigliano, Italy. Mills transferred to the Norfolk Regiment in June 1945.

After the war Mills was employed as a glass blower, married three times, and resided at Landseer Road, N19., London. He died aged 99 in London, 21 June 2012.
