Five: Lieutenant B. V. H. Flack, 1st Natal Mounted Rifles

Natal 1906, 1 clasp, 1906 (Tpr: B. V. H. Flack, Natal Telegraph. Corps.) impressed naming with the word ‘Corps’ privately engraved; 1914-15 Star, naming erased; British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Lt. B. V. H. Flack.); Colonial Auxiliary Force Long Service, G.V.R. (No 37366 Sig Sjt. B. V. H. Flack. 1st. M. R. (N. Carbs.) contact marks to the first, otherwise about very fine and better (5) £180-£220

Brian Victor Hugh Flack enrolled in the Natal Telegraph Corps on 9 October 1903 around the time of its formation and served with them during the Natal Rebellion of 1906. He is one of 38 men on the roll from this unit entitled to the Natal 1906 medal with clasp, 6 men also entitled without clasp. He is listed on the Pietermaritzburg electoral roll of 1909 and was mobilised on 22 August 1914 into the 1st Mounted Rifles and attached to the South African Field Telegraph and Postal Corps. He served as a Sergeant with the Central Force and was commissioned Lieutenant in the 1st Mounted Rifles, Northern Force on 3 April 1915. He was demobilised and discharged on 31 July 1915 in Pretoria. His entitlement to the missing 1914-15 Star is confirmed on his service record.
