A scarce Great War ‘German South West Africa - Battle of Trekkopjes’ D.C.M. group of four awarded to Private W. S. Edmunds, South African Medical Corps, attached 2nd Battalion, Kimberley Regiment, who was also wounded during the battle, 26 April 1915

D.C.M. London Gazette 22 August 1918:

‘For distinguished service in the Field, in connection with the campaign in German South West Africa, 1914-15.’

The original recommendation states:

‘At the battle of Trekkopjes Edmunds, although wounded, continued to carry out his duties under heavy fire. His courage and splendid example calls for special recognition.’

William Sydney Edmunds served during the Great War with the South African Medical Corps, and was attached to the 2nd Battalion, Kimberley Regiment for the Battle of Trekkopjes (Namibia), 26 April 1915. Edmunds was wounded during the battle, with the South African force suffering casualties of 3 officers and 6 other ranks killed, and 2 officers and 30 other ranks wounded.
