William Acott attested for the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment, and served with the 6th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1 June 1915, as well as on attachment to 37th Brigade Headquarters. For his services during the Great War he was awarded the Military Medal, most likely for his gallantry at the Battle of Sambre on 4 November 1918, in the final stages of hostilities.

J. Nye of the same battalion, ‘giving a helping hand to two wounded German prisoners near La Boisselle, 3 July 1916.’
