M.S.M. London Gazette 18 February 1921:
‘In recognition of valuable services rendered in connection with the operations of the Waziristan Force, India.’

M.I.D. London Gazette 10 June 1921:
‘For distinguished service during the operations in Waziristan, 1919-20.’

George William Kyle was born in 1889 in Chatham, Kent and attested for Short Service as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery in October 1907. He was posted to India in March 1908 and served there with the 3rd Mountain Battery. He then transferred to Egypt in March 1911 before returning to India in March 1914. He was promoted Corporal in December 1916 and Sergeant in April 1919. His unit was mobilised for active service in Waziristan in May 1919 and he was awarded an immediate M.S.M. and Mentioned in Despatches for his services with No. 6 Mountain Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, in this campaign. His M.S.M. being one of just twelve awarded to the Royal Artillery for the Waziristan Campaign with just four of those being awarded in combination with an M.I.D.

Kyle was posted to 3 PK Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery in October 1920, and 3 Light Battery in March 1925. He received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in Army Orders 368 in 1926 and was discharged in March 1929 in the rank of Sergeant. He subsequently enlisted with the Rifle Brigade in April 1940 and served in the rank of Sergeant until February 1942, receiving the War Medal 1939-45 in 1948. He died in 1955 in Chatham, Kent.
