James Harrison Eakin was born in Belfast on 22 December 1889, and having emigrated to Canada attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Victoria, British Colombia, on 7 November 1914. He served with the 7th Battalion (British Colombia Regiment) during the Great War on the Western Front, and was awarded the Military Medal.
