Three: Private M. J. Longman, Rifle Brigade, who was killed in action on the Western Front on 6 July 1915

Brig.); Memorial Plaque (Matthew John Longman), in torn O.H.M.S. envelope; Memorial Scroll (Rifleman Matthew John Longman, Rifle Brigade), with Buckingham Palace enclosures, some patches of verdigris to Plaque, otherwise good very fine (5) £180-£220

Matthew John Longman was born in Bermondsey, Surrey, and attested for the Rifle Brigade at Stratford, Essex. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 August 1914, and was killed in action at Ypres on 6 July 1915. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
