J. W. J. Jeffries served with the Hawke Battalion, Royal Naval Division, during the Great War, and was taken Prisoner of War, being interned at Groningen, Holland. Released following the cessation of hostilities, he was awarded his Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 24 March 1920.
