The pair of miniature dress medals worn by Major G. A. St. P. Fooks, Bengal Native Infantry

Punniar Star 1843, reverse contemporarily engraved ‘Ensign G. St. P. Fooks Bengal N.I.’; Punjab 1848-49, no clasp, contemporarily named ‘Lieut. S. St. P. Fooks. Bengal. N.I.’, both with top silver riband buckles, very fine (2) £200-£240

G. A. St. P. Fooks was commissioned Ensign in the 50th Bengal Native Infantry on 21 August 1840, and served in the Saugor and Nerbudda Districts in 1842-43, and in the Gwalior campaign, where he was present at the battle of Punniar, 29 December 1843. Promoted Lieutenant on 24 January 1845, he served during the Second Sikh War 1848-49, and then subsequently in command of a Detachment of the 37th and 50th Native Infantry during the Sonthal Campaign in 1855. For his services he received the thanks of the brigadier Commanding the Field Force, having been in five skirmishes with the rebels, and was promoted Brevet Captain on 21 August 1855. He was promoted Captain on 19 May 1858, and Major in the Staff Corps on 18 February 1861.
