Four: Lieutenant-Commander F. J. Moon, Royal Navy

China 1900, no clasp (F. J. Moon, Lg. Sea., H.M.S. Bonaventure.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. F. J. Moon. R.N.); Greece, Kingdom, Order of the Redeemer, 2nd type, Knight’s breast badge, 55mm including crown suspension x 35mm, silver and enamel, unmarked, toned, hinged suspension of last slightly bent, white enamel damage, edge bruising overall, therefore generally very fine (4) £400-£500

Frederick John Moon was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire in January 1878. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in October 1895, and advanced to Able Seaman in October the following year. Moon served with H.M.S. Bonaventure, March 1898 - August 1901, and advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class in May 1901. He advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class in September of the same year, and was promoted to Acting Gunner in December 1904.

Having been confirmed as a Gunner in December 1905, Moon served as part of the Staff for the British Naval Mission to Greece from August 1913. Subsequent postings included with H.M.S.
Excellent and Pembroke. Moon advanced to Lieutenant in March 1918, and retired Lieutenant-Commander in 1926. He died October 1949.
