William John Blackstone was born on 26 December 1889, and attested for the 4th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment at Orpington on 29 August 1910. He served during the Great War in India from 29 October 1914 to 13 October 1915, with the rest of his service at home (and therefore did not qualify for either the 1914-15 Star nor the Victory Medal). He remained with the Territorial Force after the Great War, and served with them throughout the 1920s.
