suspension slack, edge bruise and polished, naming weak in parts, otherwise better than good fine £800-£1,200

Awarded in gold to Jacob Van Duin, Coxswain, and in silver to Jacob Bal and Js. Van Duin, crew of the Scheveningen Lifeboat, owned by the N. and S. Holland Rescue Society, for the rescue of the crew of 23 of the ship Ben Avon, of Glasgow, stranded at Scheveningen on 10 February 1889. Rescue very tricky, in heavy snow squalls, with high seas washing over the boat, which was damaged against the stern of the ship. (The above named men each made four trips to rescue the crew).
