D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919 (citation published 11 March 1920):
‘For marked gallantry during the Piave operations, notably during a counter-attack made by the enemy on the night of the 25-26 October 1918, on the Island of Papadopoli. As company runner he crossed exposed and dangerous ground under heavy fire to bring back news of the situation. After the attack had been repulsed he went out alone to reconnoitre, and brought back valuable information.’

S. W. Bayliss attested for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment at Cradley Heath, Staffordshire, and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 31 July 1915, as well as with the Machine Gun Corps.
