Gerald William Thompson was born at Burstowes Cottages, Ewhurst, Surrey, in May 1933. He enlisted for the Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey), and was attached to the 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers for service in Korea. He was killed in action, 23 April 1953, and ‘Gerald, who was nearly 20, sailed for Korea last June [1952]. He was a popular member of Ewhurst Youth Club and the Cricket Club.’ (photocopy of newspaper cutting included in lot refers).
