Percy James Oxley was born in August 1895, and was a native of Brighton. He served during the Great War with ‘B’ Squadron, 9th Lancers in the French theatre of war from 18 October 1915. Oxley advanced to Sergeant Major in February 1937, and served with the Regiment in France and North Africa during the Second War. He advanced to Regimental Sergeant Major, and was commissioned Lieutenant in March 1941. Oxley advanced to Temporary Major in August of the same year.
