William Bowman, grocer, constable 1663; Edward Ball, miller, wife’s name Johanna; Samuel Crawford, fellmonger. Of the four known types of token issued by Edward Ball, the two from irregular dies with unpierced cinquefoil mint-marks and a cog-wheel with 23 cogs were originally dated 1666 [2 known, this one and that in the R. Shuttlewood Collection, Spink Auction 151, in lot 638]; later, the last figure of the date was altered to 1668 [Smith 234, 3 known: Lincoln Museum, Spalding Gentlemen’s Society and T.W. Townsend Collection, in lot 39]
