British Empire Medal, G.VI.R., 1st issue, Military, (S/1089334 Pte. Charles F. Spalding R.A.S.C.), with Royal Mint case of issue, nearly extremely fine £80-100

B.E.M. London Gazette 1 January 1945, with copy of official recommendation which states ‘Private Spalding has over a period of sixteen months commencing in March 1943, had sole charge of the two paper stores belonging to the P. & S.S. Directorate H.Q. Palestine. Paper held in these stores is valued at ten thousand pounds sterling and there is a monthly turn-over of approximately eight hundred pounds. Owing to the small establishment of the Directorate Private Spalding has worked with only the minimum supervision and has maintained perfect accounts throughout. So well has Private Spalding supervised his native storemen that not a single sheet of paper has been damaged by careless handling or poor stacking. In addition to this highly efficient maintenance of both stores and accounts Private Spalding has consistently shown exceptional initiative in the salvaging and collating for re-use of off-cuts from printing jobs thereby effecting a considerable saving of public funds. Throughout Private Spalding has shown the greatest initiative and efficiency in performing far above those of his rank.
