A good Second War ‘Burma’ M.M. group of five to Naik Lal Singh, 16th Punjab Regiment, later killed in action

Military Medal, G.VI.R. (11595 Naik, 16 Punjab R.), officially engraved naming, repair to suspension; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; India service Medal; War Medal, edge bruise to first, nearly very fine or better £350-400

M.M. London Gazette 16 November 1944. ‘At Mizawa Kaladan Valley on 11 March 1944 Naik Lal Singh was commanding a section. Noticing that the fire of his weapons was not preventing the enemy from approaching his position, he armed himself with six grenades and leaving his slit trench attacked the enemy throwing his grenades. The enemy advance was halted and then joined by Lance Naik Bhag Singh L.M.G. No. 1 they attacked an L.M.G. post and destroyed it. Naik Lal Singh showed complete disregard for his own safety. His actions show a great personal courage and determination to kill.’

Naik Lal Singh a Sumharie Dogra Rajput came from the village of Rai Kuta, Jasmergarh Tehsil in the Kathua District of the Jammu State. He was killed in action in an engagement against the Japanese 12 May 1944. His name is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Burma.
