Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (Ens. Hon. M. Aylmer, 7th R. Fus.) impressed naming, very fine £500-600

Major-General The Right Honourable Lord Matthew Aylmer was born in 1842, eldest son of Lord Udolphus Aylmer of Melbourne, Canada. He was gazetted into the 7th Royal Fusiliers in 1864 and served during the Fenian Raid in 1866. He afterwards served for many years in the Canadian Militia, for a while as District Paymaster AAG, and commanded the Canadian Contingent at Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. He was appointed Hon. Colonel, 11th Hussars in 1903, and Inspector General in 1904. He retired as a Major-General in 1907, having succeeded his father as 8th Baron Aylmer in 1901, and died in Canada on 11 June 1923.
