Thomas Macdonald attested for the Hampshire Regiment, and served with the 15th (2nd Portsmouth) Battalion, as part of 122nd Brigade, 41st Division, during the Great War on the Western Front from 2 June 1915. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps.
