William Henry Cockrem was born in May 1895, and was the son of Mr and Mrs R. Cockrem of 1 Osborne Road, Ilfracombe, Devon. He attested for the Royal Marine Light Infantry in February 1900. Cockrem advanced to Corporal in October 1903, and to Sergeant in July 1910. He served with H.M.S. Dartmouth 2 September 1913 - 12 August 1914. On the latter date he was ‘discharged dead’, having died of Denge Fever.
Sergeant Cockrem is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
