Anthony Richards was born in November 1965, and enlisted in the Royal Scots at Edinburgh in November 1985. He served with the 1st Battalion in Northern Ireland, 16 December 1987 - 29 April 1988 and 26 September 1992 - 27 March 1993. Richards advanced to Lance-Corporal, and transferred to the Reserve in November 1994.
